The reigning VGMA’s Gospel Artiste of the year and the immediate past Artiste Of The Year, Joe Mettle has revealed that his song does not deservethe ‘Gospel Song of the Year’ at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
According to the musician, co-gospel singer Patience Nyarko’s hit song ‘Obi Nyane Me’ was by far, more popular than his worship song ‘Bo noo ni’ which featured Luigi Maclean.
Speaking in an interview with Agyeman Prempeh, popularly known as Agyengo on Power 97.9 FM, Joe Mettle revealed that to a large extent, Patience Nyarko’s ‘Obi Nyane Me’ song was more popular than his song.
The gospel act went on to reveal that in his point of view, he won the award based on the massive votes of his fans who did everything in their power to see him lift the coveted prize. Joe Mettle also noted that all the songs in the various categories deserved to be there and that it took a miracle for one song to beat the other to the awards.
Barely a week down the line after the VGMA, Patience Nyarko is alleged to have rubbished the credibility of the organizers of the VGMAs, rating the likes of ‘Di Asa’ and TV3’s mentor above what has come to be known as Ghana’s biggest Music Awards event.
Joe Mettle picked up the ‘Gospel Artiste of the Year’, ‘Gospel Song of the Year’ and ‘Male Vocalist of the Year’ at the just-ended 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which was held in Accra on April 14.
