It could be recalled that few days ago, it was reported that Ghanaian reggae/dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy had said during an interview on Hitz FM that anyone who was interested in booking him for an event should contact his personal manager, Blakk Sidi. This news however generated talks among music lovers as they wondered if this establishes a breakup between the musician and the Zylofon Music label.
However, the Public Relations Officer for Zylofon Music, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo in a conversation with Sammy Forson reiterated that the BHiM Nation boss is still with Zylofon Music. He again added that a notice the company published on March 13 and 23 telling all who need the artiste’s services to contact them still holds despite Stonebwoy saying otherwise on Hitz FM days back.
Mr. Asamoah-Baidoo on Hitz FM Thursday morning commenting on Stonebwoy‘s statement that his management should be contacted for deals made it clear that “I would be lying if I do state that there is no issue between Stonbwoy and the record label.” He quickly added that lawyers of Zylofon Music and the Baafira hitmaker’s management have had meetings to put matters to rest so they were surprised to hear him make such a statement in public.
“Stonebwoy is still a Zylofon recording artiste and there is no dispute about it. I remember on March 13, there was a relase by or for the label outlining all the celebrities under the brand and Stonebwoy’s name was in there. On March 23rd, there was another release which actually specified that if there is any organisation/firm that would want to engage Stonebwoy as an artiste, the person must seek the approval of Zylofon Music and that still stands. As far as we are concerned as a label, Stonebwoy is still signed to us.
I would be lying if I do state that there is no issue between Stonebwoy and the record label. Over the period, the legal team of Zylofon Music and Stonebwoy’s team have been meeting to resolve the seeming issue that exists betwen the two entities so we were actually surprised that he went ahead to make those statements to the effect that his management should be contacted for bookings.” Arnold said.
When asked if Stonebwoy’s recent behaviour is linked with the fact that he has not been given the attention other artistes on the label enjoy, the PRO answered: “I’m not sure that is the problem because he would have said that in any of the several meetings we have had.”
When quizzed again if the BET award-winner’s recent comment is not a breach of contract, Arnold replied that “we have given this to our legal team which is led by Kwame Boafo Akuffo and with time we are going to issue a statement in regard to the latest declaration by Stonebwoy because we believe as a label, it is important we respect contract and responsibilities both parties have in the contract so you guys will hear from our legal team.”
